Chris Howard has worked in the hospitality industry for a decade, but recently made Austin his home, where he’s settling into his new role as director of sales and marketing at the Hyatt Regency Austin. Situated on the shore of Lady Bird Lake, the hotel sports a modern aesthetic that suits Austin’s vibrant downtown. After celebrating its third anniversary of providing low cost services from London Gatwick, Norwegian Air, along with Visit Austin and Austin Bergstrom International Airport, revealed Austin as a new U.S. route from London Gatwick Airport. Norwegian Air will begin providing the eight-hour flight to Austin beginning March 27, 2018, with one way tickets at £239 and premium tickets at £579. The flight will take off from Barbara Jordan Terminal at 4:20 p.m., landing in London at 7:20 a.m.

1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role as director of sales and marketing?
For planners looking to get away from cookie-cutter meeting spaces, these historic hotels across Texas offer one-of-a-kind charm. Having served as social centers in their respective cities for decades, these resorts have been lovingly restored to offer modern amenities while staying true to their early 20th-century heritage.
Texas has many uniting themes throughout the state, and one is a pride in the state’s history and natural beauty. The state’s wide variety of museums and botanical gardens is a testament to that pride, and these locations—which range in focus from the history of Dr Pepper to the oil industry to state wildlife and more—can make for the perfect (not to mention memorable) venue for a meeting or event. Many museums have several venue spaces to offer, making it easy to customize an event based on size, technology and set-up needs, and overall vibe.
The Highland Lakes Region extends from Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin to 100 miles outside the city to Lake Buchanan. The chain of seven lakes formed from a series of dams along the Colorado River offer opportunities to boat, kayak, fish and swim while taking in the Texas Hill Country.

In the up-and-coming east Austin area in Texas, ARRIVE Hotels & Restaurants is building a new boutique hotel. Located on the corner of East 6th and Chicon St., this will be ARRIVE's second location. The new hotel will have 83 rooms and will open in the spring of 2019.

Houston First has unveiled two key art installations—“Soaring in the Clouds” by artist Ed Wilson and “Wings over Water” by Joe O’Connell and Creative Machines—as a part of the Houston Infusion initiative. The “Soaring in the Clouds” installation is suspended from the ceiling of the grand lobby in the George R. Brown Convention Center and features approximately 300 elements that resemble flocks of birds in flight. “Wings over Water” is a kinetic sculpture that moves as visitors enter the George R. Brown Convention Center Plaza in downtown Houston.
