Traverse City Uncorked: A Month-Long Celebration of Local Wines

This May, a new month-long series of wine-related events called “Traverse City Uncorked” will be held throughout the Traverse City area. The event is a collaboration between Traverse City Tourism, the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail and the Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula. It will showcase Traverse City’s burgeoning wine and cuisine scene while also featuring specials at participating venues throughout the region.

Oink and Moo Food Truck Wins No. 2 in The Daily Meal’s 101 Best Food Trucks in America 2017

Oink and Moo, a food truck that has operated in New Jersey since 2012, is making big news! The truck is known throughout NJ towns like Hoboken and Asbury Park, but after expanding to Philadelphia, it won a Vendy award for Rookie of the Year. Now, The Daily Meal has rated Oink and Moo the No. 2 best food truck in the United States. The food is straight up BBQ—beef brisket or pulled pork sliders, chili, tacos, quesadillas, and ribs.

Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau Announces Highest Convention Booking Year Ever

The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau announced that 2016 was its highest convention booking year ever with 713 events and 903,199 hotel room nights secured for future years. This is an 18.2 percent increase in the number of events and a 5.8 percent increase in room nights secured during 2015.

Mahaffey Introduces Special event Structure at CONEXPO-CON/AGG

Mahaffey Fabric Structures—a provider of temporary turnkey structures and shelter solutions in the U.S.—has launched Manhattan Matrix by Mahaffey. The fully-enclosed special event structure is a 50 feet by 82 feet with an all-glass front eave side that evokes a feeling of luxury typically found in permanent installations. It will house large events and was on display at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas March 7–11, 2017.

The Sanctuary Lands Among the Stars

Forbes Travel Guide awarded The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort with five stars for the ninth year in a row. The Sanctuary was also received five diamonds from AAA for the 11th year in a row.

Forbes Travel Guide also awarded The Spa at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort with five stars for the ninth year in a row. The resort’s high-end steakhouse, The Ocean Room, earned both Forbes Four Star and AAA Four Diamond awards (there are no five star or five diamond steakhouses).

Fontainebleau Miami Beach Resort Completes Multiphase Redesign

 The Fontainebleau Miami Beach has just revealed updates to its hotel, including a fresh design for Versailles Tower and updates to the hotel’s poolside cabanas. Jeffrey Beers International, LLC, led the Versailles Tower project while Clausen-Collaborative Interior Design worked on the cabanas.

The Metro Toronto Convention Centre Launches Impressive South Building Modification

The Metro Toronto Convention Centre announced that its South Building is undergoing a $23 million renovation and modification, which will include 10 new meeting rooms, offering an additional 13,000 square feet of event space. Tvsdesigns and IA Interior Architects will guide the renovation, projected to complete in early 2018.

Meet Minneapolis Grieves Death of Mary Tyler Moore

Minneapolis residents have been mourning the death of Mary Tyler Moore since her passing last week on Jan. 25, 2017. She was well known for her 1970s sitcom, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which helped put Minneapolis on the map.

“The 1970s were a time when IDS Center was rising from the ground, Nicollet Mall was still new, and lots of change was coming to Minneapolis,” says Melvin Tennant president and CEO, Meet Minneapolis. “The Mary Tyler Moore Show, with its images of Minneapolis and frequent references to the city, really brought our growing city onto a national stage.”

Hotel Hershey Appoints New General Manager

After 14 years of service as Hotel Hershey’s general manager, Brian O’Day has announced his retirement effective April 30, 2017. Taking his place will be current assistant general manager, Bill Hendrix.

As general manager Hendrix will oversee the entire operation of The Hotel Hershey and Hershey Laundry and Cleaning. The hotel, built by chocolate tycoon Milton S. Hershey, features 276 guest rooms and a surplus of amenities such as a spa, three restaurants and more than 25,000 square feet of meeting space.
