Annual Survey Reveales American to Top $100 Billion in Vacation Spending

Allianz Global Assistance released their Allianz Travel Insurance Vacation Confidence Index on July 5, revealing that Americans are estimated to spend more than $100 billion of spending on summer vacations this summer. Allianz defined a vacation as a "leisure trip of at least a week to a place that is 100 miles or more from home." The Vacation Confidence Index measures Americans' confidence in their ability to take a summer vacation, showing that the projected summer spending for this year is $101.1 billion, compared to 2016's $89.9 billion, a 12.5 percent increase from 2016.

Denver Breaks Tourism Record

The city of Denver has broken its own record, earning $5.3 billion in tourism revenue in 2016. Based on the Longwoods International annual visitor profile study, Denver welcomed 31.5 million visitors (including 17.3 million overnight visitors) and is rising as a top tourism destination.

Mount Pleasant Area CVB Executive Director Earns Certification

Chris Rowley, the Mount Pleasant Area Convention and Visitors Bureau's executive director, recently acquired her certification as a Government Meeting Specialist from the Society of Government Meeting Professionals .

The SGMP certifies employees of government entities through the voluntary GMS program whose  goal is to teach planners and suppliers to plan meetings and events in the most effective way possible for their government employers. The program requires participants to fulfill the ethical, personal and professional requirements that the SGMP specifies.

McEvoy Ranch Welcomes Outside Groups and Companies for Event Hosting

McEvoy Ranch, located in Petaluma, Calif., is setting a precedent. Through its brand new program, the 550-acre ranch of Marin County is welcoming outside companies and groups to host corporate and special events for the first time. Guests will have a pick of six customizable indoor and outdoor venues, allowing for a variety of events, gatherings and meetings.

CEO Jim Caldwell Maintains Vision of Omni Hotels & Resorts in New Multirole Position

Omni Hotels & Resorts recently announced Jim Caldwell as president of the hotel group. His new role will combine with his CEO position—that he has held since 13 years—and president of TRT Holdings, Inc.

Through Marriott International's guest satisfaction survey process, Ambassador Hotel Tulsa has been announced as top among full-service Marriott hotels. The Tulsa hotel, owned and operated by Coury Hospitality, is one of 5,700 Marriott properties around the world.

Five Disney Springs Resort Area Hotels have unveiled new meeting offerings for 2017 group programs. Located in the Walt Disney World Resort, these hotels are within walking distance of the Disney Springs area. The new waterfront Disney Springs offers a wide mix of shops, a variety of both upscale and casual dining options and live entertainment options.

VisitPITTSBURGH has developed a fun promotional campaign to get locals more involved with its “Pittsburgh. Mighty. Beautiful.” theme and tagline. The organization kicked-off the “Mighty. Beautiful.” campaign and contest at its Annual Meeting luncheon by asking attendees to think of a third word to describe the city, e.g. Mighty. Beautiful. Welcoming. Among the words being used to describe Pittsburgh were: Inspiring. Proud. Reinvented. Welcoming. Legendary. Innovative.
