Get Ready for 2023 Global Meetings Industry Day

The Meetings Mean Business Coalition has announced “Meetings Matter” as the 2023 theme for Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) to be held on March 30. The international day of advocacy showcases the economic and societal importance of face-to-face business meetings, trade shows, incentive travel, exhibitions, conferences, and conventions.

While attending the 2022 Colorado Governor’s Tourism Conference on Sept. 21-23 in Snowmass, presenter Angie Briggs, vice president of industry relations for the U.S. Travel Association, spoke about the state of the tourism industry at the opening session and led a “Getting Candid About Workforce” seminar. Geoff Freeman

On a national level, Geoff Freeman, has been named president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association effective Sept. 1. He rejoins U.S. Travel after nearly a decade of association leadership, first as president and CEO of the American Gaming Association and currently in the same role for the Consumer Brands Association. Freeman succeeds Roger Dow, who is stepping down following a 17-year tenure as leader of the organization.

When executed safely, in-person meetings and events are possible. But it’s been tough for meeting planners across the nation, due to differing state-by-state and even county-by-county guidelines. In some areas, meetings and events returned a while ago, but for others, it’s hard to imagine what planning a meeting would be like. In an effort to show the latter how to hold safe business gatherings when restrictions loosen, the Meetings Mean Business Coalition (MMBC) launched their Meet Safe platform as a resource for other planners to reference when planning future in-person meetings.
