On July 13-16, U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis hosted the X Games for the first year of a two-year hosting. The X Games are expected to bring 100,000 people to Minneapolis and the Mall of America over the weekend, which will give national and international media exposure; as well as the 8,300 hospitality and tourism jobs that the X Games will bring to the city.
Tourism organization Destination British Columbia wanted to take a new approach to helping people imagine visiting or hosting events in British Columbia, so it created and launched “The Wild Within,” a series of immersive tours through the most gorgeous locations in B.C. It’s a site-selection trip of sorts that planners and vacationers can take by donning any virtual reality headset or by watching the videos on YouTube.
During this year’s IMEX America in Las Vegas Oct. 18–20, the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board launched Virtual Discovery L.A., a virtual reality travel platform that gives meeting professionals an immersive 360-degree viewing experience of 50-plus venues and locations across Los Angeles—the most comprehensive virtual tour of any place on the planet.
