Meet Dennis Galloway, a Washingtonian in Washington

Dennis Galloway is from what he calls “the first Washington,” aka Washington, D.C. But after 9/11, he decided to change coasts. “You can’t live on red alert,” Galloway says. “Life’s too short.”

So he packed up and moved to Seattle, trying on many hospitality hats once he arrived, before landing at the Washington State Convention Center as its sales manager in 2012.

“I went from meeting management to an event manager to catering sales and ended up at the convention center,” he says. 

Global DMC Partners Launches Global Standardization Program

Washington D.C.’s Global DMC Partners, the leading global network of Destination Management Companies, announced their Global Standardization Program, offering meeting professionals a more effective and streamlined way to procure destination management services worldwide. After working closely with its Customer Advisory Board and DMC Advisory Board, three documents were developed, allowing meeting professionals to save time and simplify the process of contracting and working with their DMCs in any destination.

Barry Smith Earns Lifetime Achievement Award

Barry Smith, president and CEO, has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Professional Convention Management Association Education Foundation yesterday at the 2017 Visionary Awards in Washington, D.C.

Smith is one of the first Canadians to ever receive this award, which is given to inspirational leaders for their contributions to the business events industry.

Hyatt Place Washington D.C. Goes Toy Shopping for Guests

The Hyatt Place Washington D.C./U.S. Capitol is continuing their annual tradition of serving as a Toys for Tots drop-off site. This year, they are offering to go toy shopping for their guests and locals who wish to give, but don’t have the time to shop.

Guests can also give funds to the cause by having a donation added to their account upon check-in. The hotel will accept toys between now and Dec. 7.

MGM National Harbor to Open This December

The first luxury gaming resort in Washington D.C., MGM National Harbor, is set to open on Dec. 8. Located minutes from the Potomac River, the resort is accepting reservations for stays beginning Dec. 10.
