Created by the Michigan Travel Commission in conjunction with the Governor’s Office, The Governor’s Awards for Innovative Tourism Collaboration elevate the status of Michigan’s tourism industry and promote innovative collaboration as an effective, efficient and creative operating principle for the industry. In April, at the Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Detroit, Dave Lorenz of Travel Michigan, representing the Michigan Travel Commission, and Julie Pingston, representing the Tourism Industry Coalition of Michigan (TICOM), presented the 2017 awards.
Jennifer Erney, Associate Luxury Hotels International vice president of sales, was named the 2017 Supplier of the Year by PCMA at the 2017 PCMA Education Foundation Visionary Awards. The 2017 Professional Excellence Awards winners were selected from nearly 7,000 members of PCMA.
“Our 2017 honorees and award winners’ accomplishments serve as inspiration to both industry veterans and novices alike,” says Deborah Sexton, president and CEO, PCMA. “Each an expert in their profession – always endeavoring to lead the advancement of their organizations and the business events industry.”

Recently, the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau hosted their 22nd Annual Recognition of Service Excellence Awards at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Nominations are provided by clients, guests, supervisors, and the public; the awards recognize outstanding customer service. This award ceremony has six categories, a special Overall Service Champion category.
In the second year of their campaign, ‘It’s Good Not To Be Home,’ Hyatt Regency teamed up with Fast Company and Inc. to elevate their hotel experience. The collaboration allows travelers to participate through social media, and share why ‘It’s Good Not To Be Home.’ Using #HyattRegencyContest, guests can share creative ways to improve the Hyatt guest experience. At the end of the contest, two winners will be selected and given the chance to bring their visions to life, with the help of personal trainer Gunnar Peterson, and pastry chef/cronut creator Dominique Ansel.
