Chicago's Aloha Poke Co. has announced new locations in Wisconsin (Milwaukee), Minnesota (Minneapolis), Southern California (Marina Del Rey, Costa Mesa, San Diego and Los Angeles), three locations in Miami and one in Washington D.C. Since its opening in March 2016 in the Chicago French Market, has expanded around Illinois, and plans to open in Denver were made earlier this year.
"We embrace our beer and cheese and Packers in Wisconsin, certainly," says Julia Hertel, executive director, Wisconsin Association of CVBs, of the state’s reputation, but Wisconsin’s natural beauty is often not realized by outsiders. “Most of our facilities, our major convention centers, are on the water or are right next to the water, whether that’s a river or a lake.” The state’s regions have many of the same core elements that make Wisconsin Wisconsin, but each have their own distinctive character.

The Abbey Resort in Fontana, Wis., has recently completed renovations that improved their 334 guest rooms, upgraded their outdoor hot tub, and added waterslides to their kids' pool and new features to the toddler-friendly splash pad. The resort is situated on the shores of Geneva Lake, which inspires the nautical theme of their guest rooms. With plush new bedding, carpeting, paint and sofa sleepers, guests will appreciate the comfort of Abbey Resort's updated spaces.
Visit Milwaukee recently hired three new employees to its marketing and communications team. Claire Hanan, communications manager, and Emily Tau, communications coordinator, will work with travel writers to showcase the best of the Greater Milwaukee area and increase the economic impact of tourism in the region. Amanda Buhrman joined the marketing team as digital marketing manager. Buhrman will lead Visit Milwaukee’s website redesign and will be responsible for all digital marketing efforts.
Kohler Co. has announced the appointment of Doug Stringer as head chef of The Immigrant Restaurant, located at The American Club resort-hotel at Destination Kohler.
Stringer joined Kohler Co. in 2015 as sous chef of Riverbend, where he oversaw all facets of kitchen operations, purchasing, food cost management, staffing, menu design, and overall leadership. He has over seven years of fine dining and hospitality experience. In his new role, he will oversee the development and creation of culinary programs.
