After completing renovations last year of all 2,032 guest rooms, the Regency and Crystal ballrooms, and the Concourse area of the hotel’s expansive meeting space, Hyatt Regency Chicago on East Wacker Drive along the Chicago River has embarked on a $20 million renovation of the Grand Ballroom. Scheduled for completion by next April, the remodeling includes new architectural lighting, fresh flooring, wall coverings, restrooms, furniture, and curated artwork in prefunction spaces. Designed by Ealain Studio of Portland, Maine, the refreshed spaces draw inspiration from Chicago’s heritage, expressed through gray color tones and artwork that represents 360 years of Chicago history.
The Grand Ballroom is Hyatt Regency Chicago’s largest ballroom, with capacity for 3,000 attendees. The just under 10,000-square-foot Crystal Ballroom—with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on The Magnificent Mile—holds 1,000, while the Regency Ballroom accommodates 750. The hotel’s Riverside Exhibit Hall is one of the biggest exhibition spaces in Chicago with 70,000 square feet.
