Detroit’s Belle Isle Casino—never an actual casino, but a facility for events—reopened in March following renovations, which include a new roof, modifications for accessibility, and interior updates.

Belle Isle, where the venue is located, became a state park in 2014. Amanda Treadwell, an urban area field planner with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, says the 20,000-square-foot Italianate-style facility has long been used for events, weddings, graduations, and reunions. “These improvements allow for a better visitor experience,” she says.

Meanwhile, the state leased the Belle Isle Boathouse, which Treadwell describes as having a similar look to Belle Isle Casino, to Detroit-based Stuart-Pitman Inc. In addition to the facility’s existing ballroom, Stuart-Pitman is creating a conference space on the third floor that will have a bar—all available for rentals.
