Blair Bowman, owner of the Suburban Collection Showplace exhibition, conference, and banquet center in Novi, is proposing a $270 million redevelopment initiative that would strengthen the city’s pull for large events. The Novi City West mixed-use development will contain a new 225-room Cambria Hotels property and an entertainment district called The Mix, with dining, nightlife, green spaces, and housing. The existing Hyatt Place Detroit/Novi attached to Suburban Collection Showplace offers 126 rooms.
“Suburban Collection Showplace is a tremendous community asset, with venue resources to host industry-leading meetings, conferences, and events,” says Claude Molinari, president and CEO of Visit Detroit, in a prepared statement. “But the lack of on-site hotel rooms prevents the facility from securing many of the events that would lead to greater economic impact and community engagement.”
Bowman says the development project is still subject to approval by the Michigan Economic Development Corp., and needs this approval in order to receive brownfield funding, money intended to facilitate the large-scale redevelopment of underutilized and obsolete industrial land. “We’re looking for their formal approval in spring of 2026,” Bowman says. “Construction of the hotel would begin three to six months after that.”
