Restaurant Recommendation: It’s a Matter of Taste

By M+E Staff

Michigan may be the Great Lakes state, but we’ve got plenty of inland waters, too. And some of them make fantastic settings for group dining. It’s a Matter of Taste in Commerce Township offers gorgeous views of Union Lake from both its restaurant and its second-story banquet facilities. Restaurant Manager Robin Traynor says though the menu is Italian-based, the food is “eclectic, with a bit of something from everywhere.”

The family-owned restaurant, which opened in 2003, can seat 127 inside and 70 on its outdoor patio overlooking the lake. In the summer, six garage doors open to make the entire main floor a fresh-air dining experience. While the restaurant can’t be rented, group reservations are accepted (and very necessary if one hopes to dine at the popular eatery in the summer).

For an event, groups can choose from three banquet rooms: the Ballroom, for up to 200 people seated; the South Room, for groups up to 140; and the North Room, for groups up to 70. The Ballroom offers a dance floor.

Facilities can be rented for morning, afternoon or evening events. Room rental fees include white-linen tablecloths, skirting, napkins, china, silverware and stemware, along with setup and cleanup.
