Well, another fantastic Best of Michigan Awards party has come and gone. Every year, I think we’ve topped ourselves, though, really, each year’s celebration is wonderful in its unique way.
This year we took the party to Traverse City, a much-needed visit by the magazine’s readers and supporters to the region that has done so much to lure tourism to Michigan. The local meeting and events industry folks bent over backwards to make the experience exceptional. We spread out over two venues—the City Opera House and the Hotel Indigo—and enjoyed wonderful hospitality wherever we were.
If you missed it, you can still read about the winners on our website. And no doubt we’ll have a date and venue for next year’s party lined up soon, so check the website often.
Finally, and not to bury the lede, but this will be my final blog post for Michigan Meetings + Events. After five years, I’m moving on—to more time with my five-year-old son and less time divided between diverse professional responsibilities. I’ve had a very good run, and I will miss supporting the valuable, interesting and just straight-up fun work this industry does.
Happily, I’m leaving you in good hands. Ron Garbinski, a longtime local writer and editor who edited the magazine back when it was being hatched, is taking the helm. He and his wife, fellow writer Megan Swoyer, joined us in Traverse City, and I’m excited to see how the magazine will evolve under his direction.
So thank you for an exciting, enjoyable and meaningful five years. And please keep doing all you do to elevate our lovely state.
