Two northern Michigan airports are receiving a boost in air service this spring as Chicago-based United Airlines launches new seasonal nonstop routes to and from Chicago O’Hare International Airport—one of the world’s largest airport hubs—via SkyWest Airlines of St. George, Utah.

Beginning May 8, United will offer daily round-trip flights from Chicago to Pellston Regional Airport (PLN) in Emmett County, followed by new service from Chicago to Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) in Kincheloe launching May 15. Both routes will operate through September.

These new connections significantly improve accessibility to northern Michigan and Ontario, giving travelers and meeting planners greater flexibility when comparing costs and schedules across multiple airports in the Great Lakes region. Flying into PLN provides direct access to charming communities like Petoskey and Harbor Springs, while CIU is within close proximity to Sault Ste. Marie and other Upper Peninsula destinations. For those visiting Mackinaw City or Mackinac Island, both airports offer convenient entry points within reasonable distance.

“The economic impact of this new service will positively affect tourism, business travel, and provide more flight options for outbound passengers,” says Tami Beseau, CIU airport manager, in a prepared statement. “This is a win for the entire region.”
