The Minneapolis Skyway System’s first above-ground connection stretched from the Northstar Center building in 1963, and today the building is home to Hotel Indigo Minneapolis Downtown, which had its soft opening last December.

“The Hotel Indigo Minneapolis Downtown is a new boutique hotel in the heart of Minneapolis,” says Riana van Staden, the hotel’s regional director of sales. “The hotel … reflects the colors, textures, and history of the surrounding neighborhood. The hotel has a modern design with a touch of old Minneapolis.”

The property has 214 guest rooms and four suites, as well as Skyway access to the Minneapolis Convention Center, Target Center, U.S. Bank Stadium, and other sites downtown. The venue’s Star Bar and Bistro, which will open this May, will feature farm-fresh, local fare and cocktails. Suppliers will include Tattersall Distillery, Peterson Craftsmen Meats, and DragSmith Farms.

Owned by IHG Hotels & Resorts and managed by Great Lakes Management Group of Madison, Wisconsin, the Hotel Indigo Minneapolis Downtown will also open a 350-person-capacity event center in 2024. New York-based hospitality company Convene will operate the property.
