By M+E Staff

The DMCVB is taking on Dave Beachnau as senior vice president of sales, marketing and sports, and has promoted Kris Smith to director of the Detroit Sports Commission.

“The knowledge and expertise that Dave has contributed to the DMCVB is invaluable, and we look forward to what he will accomplish in his new role,” says Larry Alexander, president and CEO. “In his short time with the DSC, Kris has helped increase our profile within the national governing bodies of the Olympic movement, as well as created local awareness of the DSC.”

Beachnau was the founder and creator of the Detroit Sports Commission Prep Kickoff Classic and has worked at the DMCVB in different capacities for the past 24 years, serving as executive director for the DSC. He also spent a number of years in hospitality, which led to his pre-opening sales effort for his downtown hotel in Detroit.

Smith joined the sports commission in 2012. He will be responsible for furthering the DSC’s mission as well as attracting and hosting sports events. Since arriving to Detroit, Smith has played an important role in hosting events within their region such as USA Fencing, USA Volleyball, USA Taekwondo, and the Association of Chief Executives for Sport. Currently, he holds a position as a board member on the National Association of Sports Commissions and it very involved with Pure Michigan Sports and the Amateur Athletic Union
