After 7 years of planning, the VanDyk Mortgage Convention Center is now open in downtown Muskegon. The official ribbon cutting took place on April 12, 2021.
“Opening a meetings and convention facility in the midst of a pandemic is a challenge, but we’re ready to provide safe and functional meeting, convention and event space for planners to host their events and tap into a population of 1.4 million within the Muskegon-Grand Rapids-Holland region,” said Bob Lukens, director of Visit Muskegon, the county’s convention and visitors bureau in a press release. “Muskegon has been planning for this facility since 2014, so it’s full steam ahead as we bring in-person meetings back to Michigan.”
The Vandyk Mortgage Convention Center provides a total of 37,700 square feet of meeting space for meetings and events in Muskegon. Within its walls, the venue offers 16,550 square feet of contiguous space, 8,100 square feet of pre-function space and 13 breakout rooms. Connected to the convention center is the newly renovated Delta by Marriott Muskegon Convention Center, providing 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space for planners as well as 200 hotel rooms for meeting attendees after a day’s worth of meetings.
The venue is also across the street from the Shoreline Inn, providing an additional 140 rooms nearby.
The VanDyk Convention Center will be operated by the Parkland Properties of Michigan, who accompanied the City of Muskegon in donating land for the venue.
