Sea Turtle Inc. was founded in 1977 in South Padre Island, beginning as a grassroots nonprofit with a mission to save injured sea turtles. It has since grown into a nationally recognized leader in sea turtle conservation as one of the largest sea turtle hospitals in the world, ranging in preservation efforts from nesting beach patrols and hatchling protection to caring for injured, ill, or cold-stunned turtles. “Through hands-on care, science-based practices, and community engagement, Sea Turtle Inc. works to ensure a future where sea turtles can thrive,” says Kelli Larson, development manager at the nonprofit. Planners can immerse attendees in the world of sea turtle conservation by gathering in one of the organization’s several on-site event spaces, including the Laguna Madre Bay Amphitheater for up to 350 seated and the indoor/outdoor Sea Turtle Resident Center for up to 300 standing, among others. The primary hospital area gives attendees a behind-the-scenes look at ongoing rehabilitation efforts, and planners also can add private guided tours, staff-led educational presentations (“Turtle Talks”), and hands-on stewardship activities (like beach cleanups) to meeting agendas.
